Sacred, Cultural & Historical Journeys in the Heart of Kashi
"Where the fire never dies,
neither does the soul."
For over 3,500 years, the fires of Manikarnika Ghat have burned without interruption — a sacred flame that Hindus believe has never been extinguished since the age of the gods.
According to the Puranas, Lord Vishnu dug the Chakra-kund (sacred pool) here. When Goddess Sati's earring — Manikarnika — fell into the kund, the ghat received its eternal name. Lord Shiva declared it the holiest ground on earth.
Lord Shiva himself whispers the Taraka Mantra into the ear of every soul cremated here — ensuring their liberation (Moksha) beyond the cycle of birth and death, regardless of their deeds in life.
The cremation fire has been burning since the age of the Mahabharata. Generations of Dom families — hereditary keepers of the sacred fire — have maintained this flame. Every pyre is lit from this single, undying source.
Born in the lanes of Kashi, Shubham Chatterjee walks beside you through the sacred ghats and hidden shrines, sharing living wisdom and the deep spiritual heritage of our city.
Each walk is a portal into ancient wisdom, untold stories, and the living pulse of India's most mystical city. Click any card to learn more.

In Kashi, the "City of Light," fire is not just a chemical reaction — it is the physical form of pure consciousness (Tejas). Ganga Ārati is a daily heritage ritual of gratitude, where massive brass lamps are swung in synchronization with chants, bells, and conch shells to honor the mother river.
While thousands watch the public ceremony from boats, Moksha Walks brings you into a traditional riverside home. Here, you will understand the cosmic alignment of the ritual, learn the significance of the five elements, and personally light a diya to float down the sacred waters.

Led by Shubham Chatterjee — a local spiritual guide, storyteller, and history teacher deeply rooted in Kashi's tradition.

Intimate groups that allow genuine connection with the city's soul — not crowds, but quiet communion.

Every alley has a story. Every temple holds a myth. Walk through living history told by someone who has grown up inside it.

Thoughtfully curated routes, reliable timing, and a guide who knows the city like the lines of his own palm.
Not only are the walks insightful, but you feel like you're walking through the city with a long and trusted friend you haven't seen in a while. Not only was Shubham able to recommend me cafes, and places to eat - but was able to make great suggestions based on the weather, the time of year and took us to places where there were little to no tourists. He was able to survive my barrage of questions and gave us insights into the history, the people, the culture and way of living in Varanasi. Sitting in front of a Kali temple, we sat cross-legged eagerly listening to the stories of the goddess like a child sitting at a camp fire. Highly recommend if you're looking for a tour that feels like a friend giving you a walk of his home city.
To walk around Varanasi in the hands of an experienced guide is one thing... but to be so well taken care of by a devoted historian, in love with his city, is a PRIVILEGE. I'm so grateful for Shubham's kindness, knowledge and resourcefulness — from temple visits to boat rides at dawn. I can't wait to come back and walk with him again.
You're a wonderful guide, and for sure, if anyone asks us about Varanasi and wants to visit, you'll be the very first person we think of.
Shubham is a special guide. Thanks to him, we discovered Varanasi's most authentic alleys, temples, and markets. His English is perfect, so it was very easy to communicate. His kindness and helpfulness allowed us to create a tailor-made itinerary. Without a doubt, the best guide in Varanasi.
